Position Summary / Basic Function

Under the general supervision of the Executive Assistant to the CEO, the Special Projects Intern will coordinate the development and production of the Housing Authority of Travis County’s (HATC) Annual Report. The intern will collaborate with multiple departments to gather content, performance data, photographs, and success stories that showcase HATC’s programs and community impact. The internship provides hands-on experience in communications, project management, technical writing, data visualization, and public-sector reporting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and develop HATC’s Annual Report and associated material, such as a one-page summary of the Annual Report.
  • Gather information, statistics, accomplishments, and program highlights from departments across the agency.
  • Conduct interviews with HATC staff to capture project summaries, resident success stories, and departmental achievements.
  • Research and verify organizational data to ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the report.
  • Organize charts, graphs, infographics, photographs, and other visual content.
  • Coordinate with departments to collect high-quality photographs, project updates, and support documentation.
  • Proofread, format, and ensure quality assurance before publication.
  • Support branding consistency by following HATC’s communication standards and visual identity.
  • Handle other communications, executive office projects, and special assignments as needed.

Scope and Effect

  • The intern’s work will directly contribute to HATC’s official Annual Report, an important publication used to communicate organizational accomplishments, financial stewardship, resident impact, strategic initiatives, and agency performance to the Board of Commissioners, community partners, elected officials, residents, funding agencies, and the public.
  • Successful performance will help strengthen HATC’s public transparency, community engagement, and organizational storytelling.

External Contacts

  • The intern may interact with photographers, graphic designers, printing vendors, community partners, consultants, and other organizations supporting Annual Report development.

Internal Contacts

  • Frequent contact with Executive Leadership, department directors, and potentially others within the organization.

Pay Rate & Duration

  • $15/hr
  • 8 weeks long/200 hrs
