The Housing Authority of Travis County (HATC) is proud to announce the success of its recent Holiday Health Check-In, an event designed to bring the community together for a festive celebration while promoting health, wellness, and resource accessibility. Held indoors, the event welcomed over 50 residents, providing them with free health screenings, educational resources, and exciting holiday activities.
Residents received free blood pressure checks, glucose tests, and A1C screenings provided by the Black Men’s Health Clinic and BetterWay by Babson Diagnostics. These vital services aimed to raise awareness about diabetes and high blood pressure, which disproportionately affect our community.
Attendees gained access to SNAP, MAP, and Medicaid services, with on-the-spot appointment scheduling available.
Nearly 100 gifts were distributed to children and adults, ensuring no one left empty-handed. Attendees also competed in activities like raffles, vendor passport challenges, and a fitness competition, with 10 winners taking home exciting prizes.
Six residents received $25 off rent gift certificates, incentivizing participation while supporting families financially.
"We wanted to create an event that not only celebrated the holidays but also equipped our residents with essential health resources," said the Housing Authority of Travis County (HATC) CEO and Executive Director, Patrick Howard. "The overwhelming participation and positive feedback have shown us how impactful these events can be for our community," said Chessie Floyd, Self Sufficiency Case Manager and Coordinator at BiGAUSTIN.
