Standing Together for Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Local Resources for Travis County Residents

Oct 01, 2026 · News Release

Dear Residents, Community Partners, and Team Members,

As we enter October, the Housing Authority of Travis County joins organizations nationwide in recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual campaign is a vital reminder of the impact breast cancer has on our families, our neighborhoods, and our community right here in Central Texas.

Healthy communities start with healthy individuals. Safe, affordable housing provides the foundation for stability, but physical well-being allows our families to thrive truly. Breast cancer affects thousands of Texans each year, and early detection remains our greatest weapon in saving lives. When caught early, survival rates increase significantly.

I encourage everyone—our residents, staff, and partners—to prioritize your health and the health of your loved ones this month:

  • Schedule your screenings: If you are due for a mammogram, please make the appointment today.
  • Share the message: Talk to your mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends about the importance of regular check-ups.
  • Access local resources: Reach out to local healthcare providers and community clinics that offer affordable or free screening programs for those who qualify.

Throughout October, you will see our agency participating in awareness efforts and sharing information on how to access local health resources. Let us stand together to support survivors, honor those we have lost, and actively promote health equity and wellness across Austin and Travis County.

I appreciate your dedication to keeping our community strong, healthy, and resilient.

Sincerely,

— Patrick B. Howard, HATC CEO
